While the next iteration of Google’s OS will most likely be Android 4.3, fans are still hoping that the company will launch Android 5.0 key Lime Pie in the near future. One of the fans has posted on his Google+ account a few design renders featuring Android 5.0, at least how he would want to look like.
The renders have been created by an Electrical Engineering student at the University of Michigan named Jinesh Shah. You can check out the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie images below the article.
As you can see, the design is rather minimal and the colors are nice as they don’t affect the eyes too much. He used a couple of translucency effects such as the on-screen buttons and the transparent task bar. If you look closely at the home screen you will notice the fact that the clock has been revamped, and also includes Google Search widgets, with the Hangouts and Camera applications being placed prominently.
Even though the lock screen has only two elements, namely the Voice Search and a “scrollable Google Now lockscreen widget integrated with Notifications,” it’s a little untidy. The designer says that in his vision the Google Now widget should be already open, thus you don’t have to swipe down in order to enable it. In other words, the phone should be able to display useful information when in lock screen, with the user not being required to perform any gestures to enable the widgets. Of course, this would mean that the battery life would be shorter.
Some of you might think that there are two few widgets on the screen. Well, Shah claims that they are present, but can’t be seen as they are all hidden. However, the widgets can be displayed by simply swiping down. Once the user performs the gesture, the existing widget will be replaced by a new one, and the user can further move between them if he swiped to the sides.
We remind you that the renders are part of a concept imagined by a fan, who says that more pictures will be posted. Nevertheless, even though it’s always nice to see this kind of renders, the concepts don’t have anything to do with Google’s developments.
As I said before, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is the next version of the OS expected to be launched by the internet giant. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean has been spotted in some server logs, and also running on Andr
Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie was expected be unveiled at the Google I/O event. To be fair, we don’t even know for sure if it will be called Key Lime Pie, as Google might as well give it another name. Returning to the event, it was a big surprise to see Google not announcing a new version of Android.
Anyway, Google should hurry and release an OS update already, especially that Apple has just launched its new iOS 7. It will be interesting to see the battle between Google’s next Android version and Apple’s iOS 7.
Until then, we only have these renders, and who knows, maybe someone will make a launcher that will resemble the concept. What do you guys think?
